Choosing the right branded power bank
Choosing the right promotional power pack can be a little daunting as power packs come in all shapes, sizes and charge capacities but they all do essentially the same thing: allow you to charge a USB-powered phone, tablet, or laptop device one or more times
With so many different types, it’s not always obvious which features matter so we have created a short guide to promotional power packs.
Branded Power Bank Charge Capacity
This comes down to what your customers or staff need to charge and how often. Smartphones and tablets require different amounts of power and being able to charge them multiple times requires a higher capacity battery. It’s usually the case that higher capacity batteries will need a larger size battery so consider how portable the device should be.
If you need a charger for your laptop it’s probably not going to be a small device you’ll need.
An easy way to work out what you need is to look at the capacity of the device battery you want to charge. Device batteries are measured in milliamp hours (mAh). The iPhone 8, for example, has a 1821mAh battery, while many Android smartphones are typically between 2000 and 3000mAh.
If you choose a charger that comfortably exceeds that number, you’ll get at least one full charge out of it or you could double the number and expect to charges from it.
Tablets like iPads have 10000mAh+ batteries so you’ll need a higher capacity power bank for one full charge.
Power Banks Size, Weight, & Ports
If you decided you need a high-capacity battery pack to charge multiple devices you’ll need to make sure it has enough USB ports.
You also need to double-check that each of those ports is rated for the device you’re plugging into it–sometimes only one of them is rated at 2.4amps or higher. There’s often also a maximum power output across all USB ports, which means that charging will slow down for everything once you connect more than two or three devices.
Most portable chargers charge via USB rather than straight from a wall socket, so you’ll probably want to pick up a little USB wall adapter some of our chargers come with this.
The size and weight will increase with capacity which is something to bear in mind when traveling especially if you are carrying it in your pocket.
